However, the image which people have of the archaeologist as an intrepid explorer, treasure hunter, tomb raider and excavator of lost cities, is far removed from reality. This misconception is largely due to the fact that the most attractive and romantic aspect of this profession is the discovery of rare objects in exotic far-off lands.
