Sur les traces de Tintin
Around the world with Tintin
The Arte television series Sur les Traces de Tintin, is now available on DVD. Five documentaries take viewers on a tour of China, India and Egypt, Tibet, Morocco and Peru. It may seem astonishing to some, but Tintin has actually been to all these countries. To see for yourself all you have to do is read The Blue Lotus (China), Cigars of the Pharaoh (Egypt and India), Tintin in Tibet, The Crab with the Golden Claws (Morocco) and Prisoners of the Sun (Peru).
A 24-page booklet - with more information for the budding traveller - accompanies the collection of five DVDs. For Tintin fans these little books offer a way to travel deep within their favourite stories: a little bit like passing through the mirror in Alice in Wonderland!
Sur les Traces de Tintin is available from 2 March 2011.
A century of Tintin!
The twentieth century was only seven years old when Georges Remi was born on 22 May 1907. This was an era in which electricity was a luxury, as was running water inside buildings. The skies were practically empty of aeroplanes and the few cars that were seen on the roads backfired regularly. Things had not much changed by the time Tintin jumped into the world on 10 January 1929.
Today Tintin's adventures can be seen as windows looking back into the twentieth century. The documentary, Le Petit Vingtième: le siècle de Tintin, shows the immense worth that The Adventures of Tintin have as history books. Accompanied by an audio track of the philosopher Michel Serres (Le Fétiche et l'Iconoclaste) reading Tintin, this fascinating DVD has been available in shops since 2 March 2011.
A 100-year adventure
Tintin's travels all over the world still inspire film directors, explorers, journalists, philosophers and people from all walks of life. While some have literally followed in Tintin's footsteps, others prefer to read Le Petit Vingtième's star reporter's adventures around the globe. In 92 minutes a new program takes viewers through Belgium and France, then through Scotland, Peru, India, the Far East, North Africa and many other places that together make up the global village. Tintin has made a significant contribution to the growing feeling of brotherhood between peoples living worldwide. And as if reality wasn't enough, the little reporter has even travelled widely through countries that don't appear on any maps: Syldavia, Borduria and San Theodoros, for example!
Tintin voyageur du siècle is a rediscovery of places, traditions, cultures and lifestyles, many of which have been forgotten or have changed greatly since the time Tintin's adventures were written.
The DVD has been available in shops since 2 March 2011.
