Le Point Historia
Special Tintin edition
" Les personnages de Tintin dans l'Histoire "
An amazing opportunity to revisit the key events of the twentieth century via The Adventures of Tintin.
Here are some of the major events that inspired the work of Hergé as he created ten legendary albums from 1930 to 1944: Tintin in the Land of the Soviets - the beginnings of the URSS; Tintin in the Congo - the colonisation of Africa; Cigars of the Pharaoh - the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun; The Blue Lotus - Japanese expansionism; The Broken Ear - the Gran Chaco conflict; The Black Island - the crime of money counterfeiting.
Take King Ottokar's Sceptre for example. The story of Syldavia, target of its belligerent neighbour Borduria, is directly inspired by the Anschluss: the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany. It took Hergé only five months to write this story and transpose real-life events into the narrative. Borduria is Germany and Müsstler, the leader of the Iron Guard, is named after both Mussolini and Hitler!
