Jef, the plumber by Hergé
Plumbing is an inspiration to many! In addition to comics, Hergé also created posters and advertising campaigns. Other characters were created in this context... including Jef, a plumber who wears the colours of a Belgian company well known in the professional plumbing sector.
Did you know ? Until he was 30, Georges Remi alias Hergé was convinced that he would make a career... in advertising!
He has produced beautiful advertising posters on a variety of themes ranging from camping to cooking (Victoria de Bruxelles chocolate biscuits), fashion (Medula), spirits (Sorange) and winter sports.
His achievements include this cartoon made for Facq and published in their magazine, Facq-Revue in 1931
On this curious World Plumbing Day, let's honour a little-known character from the imagination of Hergé: Jef (all-short), not to be confused with Jef Debakker, who is more at ease with the stove than with the pipes!
