The death of Micheline Legendre
Avid readers of our news bulletins and reports will remember Micheline Legendre as a unique and talented figure from the world of puppeteering. Micheline Legendre and her troupe, Les Marionnettes de Montréal (founded in 1948), staged puppet shows based on Tintin adventures, notably Tintin in Tibet and Red Rackham’s Treasure. The Tintin adaptations were immensely successful, stealing the show at the Montreal World’s Fair in 1967. As a result, Tintin landed a part in an advertising campaign promoting milk!
Representing the spirit of puppeteering, the renowned Belgian puppet master Toone VII (José Géal) and his son will visit the Hergé Museum on 3 March 2010. This will be the first-ever meeting between Tintin and Woltje, the puppet mascot of Brussels. It will also be an occasion on which to remember the Canadian friend of Tintin who brought so much to the world of puppets.
Micheline Legendre did much to develop and promote puppet shows, passing on her skills and knowledge to several generations of puppeteers. She died on 5 January 2010, at the age of 88.
