Characters

Just as Alfred Hitchcock made furtive appearances in his films, Hergé couldn’t resist joining in the adventures of his characters. He discreetly drew himself into the scenery, appearing as a reporter dutifully taking notes when Tintin embarks for the Congo, or interviewing a local in front of the gates to Marlinspike Hall, in hope of gaining the latest on the story of the broken glass in The Calculus Affair. In Hergé’s universe, it’s hard to find a character that has been created from scratch: most were inspired by real people who were either close to the author in some way, historical figures or celebrities at the time.

Chiquito (stage name) - Rupac Inca Huaco

Name: Chiquito (stage name)
Occupation: One of the last Inca music-hall performers
Prisoners of the Sun - page 8 vignette B1
He appears in a knife-throwing act alongside Ramon Zarate, alias General Alcazar. This job is merely just a cover. In reality, he has been charged with a fanatical mission: to avenge Rascar Capac, whose tomb has been desecrated. Chiquito is there to take revenge on the seven explorers and put them to sleep using a gas found in the crystal balls. He takes part in the kidnapping of Professor Calculus, who is taken aboard the cargo ship Pachacamac, bound for Peru.
In Prisoners of the Sun, Tintin meets him on board the cargo ship; Chiquito explains to him that Calculus is going to be sacrificed. He is found to the right of the Inca during the sacrificial ceremony, where he invokes the Sun God on the altar of the temple where our friends almost died, and destroys the bewitched statuettes of the seven explorers that were used to torture them from a distance.
The name ‘Chiquito’ is related to the ‘Chiquitos’, Indians from Bolivia and Brazil.
